At least 50% of the actors who come in head for anywhere in the room but their ‘mark’. Many like to come and sit next to the casting director and/or director so that they are looking at the stage area. Others just like to sit down immediately – anywhere. What is most ideal is that you walk into the audition room (without a tremendous amount of ‘stuff’) with your headshot and resume (stapled) in hand. You shouldn’t have to go looking for it in your bag; or pull out two pieces that aren’t already stapled. A time-waster! After you’ve handed that over, you look for the mark on the floor and if there is none, know that you are going to be standing wherever the camera is pointed….so, go there! Some actors feel that it is necessary to shake everyone’s hand… This is not necessary (especially in Cold & Flu Season). That process takes extra time and doesn’t really serve any purpose – at least not one that helps the actor. The best is for this process to go as smoothly as possible.
